Have you ever noticed that Abraham is given one of the most resounding “well dones” of any person in the Bible?
Living before the first books of the Bible were written, Abraham is greatly commended in the New Testament for having believed God’s words to him. We see it in Romans 4:3 “For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”” and again Galatians 3 and Hebrews 11 also have strong recognition of Abraham for his faith.
Abraham believed God. It’s why God blessed him. But did you ever notice that the blessing wasn’t just for him? It was going to overflow and bless so many more people.
“I will surely bless you…and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.” Genesis 22:17-18
All nations! God’s eyes search the whole earth to give strong support to those whose hearts are for him, searching for people among the nations who will display “the obedience of faith” that he can bless. When we are examples of faith, like the man of faith Abraham, the inevitable result is that people around us are blessed – this is the overflow of God’s blessing and his nature as a rewarder of those who seek him (Hebrews 11:6).
Jesus also pointed out this link between believing and blessing others. “Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” John 7:38.
Right here and right now, faith still carries this same power to bless our friends, family and community on the Isle of Man.
