Revival

Read Acts 2:1-41 – ‘Revival’

“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” (v.38-39) .   After choosing Matthias, the Day of Pentecost arrived. This has been described as the first ‘revival’ reflecting the visitation of God that made a whole community aware of His awesome, immediate and over-powering presence. There were physical signs, deep conviction of sin, 3000 conversions and widespread awe – all signs of revival. We have to be careful, however, that we don’t allow this to lower our expectations for what God will do in our community today. Sure the wind, fire and multiple international languages were unusual but the resulting new life and joy, fellowship and worship, repentance and freedom, boldness and Holy Spirit power are not! The amazing promises that Peter explained are still as fresh as they were that day. Repentance, forgiveness of sin and the gift of the Holy Spirit are promises secure in Jesus for every generation. The bonus attached to this exciting truth is that all who have accepted Jesus, can now be part of a community so powerful that we read in Acts 2:43 “Awe came upon EVERY soul…” So many times in church we expect too little, settle for average and are content with the comfortable. Let’s be a people who won’t accept anything less than the full Pentecost impact in our church family. Going to Life Group this week? Blow their socks off with the overflow from being filled with the Holy Spirit!

Pray today:

· Check and reset your expectations for church this year. Have you settled?

· Pray for our worship, fellowship and witness as a community to be full of the Holy Spirit. Why shouldn’t it be awe inspiring?
