"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

Great chefs season their food and this can be the simple ingredient that transforms a dish into a taste sensation. The Bible teaches us that the seasoning for a great prayer life is a gratitude attitude. Many times counting my blessings has led to a greater awareness of God’s presence and more powerful prayer.

Not only is thanksgiving a way to strengthen our prayer life but it is also the antidote to worry. Paul tells us not to be anxious about anything but to present requests to God seasoned with thanksgiving. As we do this, the situation may not immediately change but knowing that our God is a Father who loves to give reminds us that praying is a response for everything we face.

A few years ago I started a list of answered prayers. Now this list has nearly 180 items on it! As we continue in prayer for answers that have yet to come, giving thanks for prayers already answered and for what we have already seen, strengthens, comforts and builds faith for prayers which are not yet answered.

Pray today:

  • Bring to mind your prayers that are not yet answered. Before praying for them again spend 10 minutes giving thanks to God.
  • How did this impact your prayers?
