KEY VERSE:
“The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.” Ps 121:8
When I was younger, I used to take part in hiking expeditions. One of the more challenging parts of these expeditions is when nature calls and you need the toilet. A memorable moment on one of our trips was when one of our teammates asked the rest of the group to keep watch whilst they went to the toilet in some woodland. We stood overlooking Corfe Castle and an open field in front of us, keeping watch as they disappeared into the woods.
What we hadn’t realised was that there was another path meandering through the woods which sadly bordered our teammate’s outdoor lavatory! We were shocked to hear the sound of our teammate exiting the forest at high speed, screaming, having come face to face with a friendly stranger!
We really hadn’t done well on this occasion!
The great news for us, is that our Lord is a far better watch-keeper! He promises to keep watch over you in every coming and going. I am someone who is often rushing around in and out of my home, my car, eating fast food or eating food fast. The result is that I am rarely in the same place for a significant length of time!
It is massively reassuring that I know my Lord is keeping watch over me in all that I do in my daily life! From that early morning cup of coffee to switching off the lights at night, He is keeping watch. The great news is that, not only is He watching over me in every moment of today, but amazingly, He will watch over every little detail of my life for the rest of my days! That is simply mind-blowing!
We should have great confidence in our God who keeps watch over us as we come and go. He won’t abandon us or fail to keep watch because He is faithful to us.
Proverbs 2:8 says: “He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.”
This is a great promise we can receive as we trust that God is watching over us as we come and go in all we do. He guards us and protects us daily as we trust in Him.
ACTION STEPS
• Pray today a prayer of thankfulness that our God is not a far and distant God but one who is close to us, guarding your paths and the one watching over your every move. He cares for each step of your life both today and forevermore.
• Whenever you go on a journey today, thank God for watching over you as you go. When you return home, thank Him for His provision and care for every aspect of your life
• Look outside your window today and watch something for a moment. Thank God that He is watching over you not only now but also forevermore!
